Week 2 - MAINE!

Oh how I love our time in Maine! Before we even leave, I am trying to figure out when we can return. Our family cottage is where I remember spending time during the summer when I was growing up and it was magical - no running water, a beach full of rocks calling for imaginations, and a yard to play games in. We have been able to have time there the last 2 summers and I hope the boys continue to treasure it as much as I do. I took a gazillion pictures it seems but in an effort not to bore you I'll just include a selected hanful. Or maybe two handfuls.

A nap in the sun by the ocean is always a good nap.

A boat trip is always a must. We saw at least 2 seals pop up near us and each boy got a turn to steer. I even got a turn and I can't remember the last time that happened!

The boys played on the beach and in the water for hours. I love being able to tell them to go play on the beach and not have to worry about anything. They collected anything they could, skipped rocks, explored tide pools - it's a great place to be a kid!

One afternoon the boys took turns with Rob to kayak over to a nearby lobster resturant. We played marathon games of wiffle ball on the lawn and we ate ice cream at least 3 times that week. We also had a couple of whoopie pies (oh how I live for these!) and on one occassion had some for breakfast.

There is a used bookstore just down the lane from our cottage that Ryan has been desperate to get to. I had not been in since I was a kid because it is usually only open on the weekends. It is a store full of nooks and crannies and shelves that look like they'll topple over any second. This year we found it open on Friday - Ryan was in heaven and for about $5 he bought 11 books!

A few pics of my favorite place...
