In early June we met up with my parents in Baltimore to attend a Red Sox game. Bopa and Grandmom took Ryan to his first Red Sox game in Phoenix, so it only made sense that they take Sean to his first Red Sox game too. I had always wanted to go to Camden Yards so it worked out well for me too. Oh the excitement in my house for weeks prior to the trip! On actual game day, we played tourist around Baltimore's inner harbor area with exploring a number of old ships, a submarine, and a great visit to the aquarium. By game time, Sean was worn out and fell asleep in my lap for a few innings. Earlier in the evening the boys and I talked to a stadium staff member who told us about a office that gave out pictures of the stadium and certificates to kids who visited. Ryan could hardly wait and made me wake Sean up around the 3rd inning so we could go find this office. We finally get down there and the boys ask politely for their picture and certificate...except to get the certificate you have to swear to be the Orioles #1 fan for the night. Sean is wearing his beloved Red Sox shirt and Ryan is wearing a red shirt and a Boston cap - there is no way they are going to agree to that! Both boys just stand there but I know Ryan's thoughts are flying..."I can't do that...the Red Sox are Bopa's team. I can't dissapoint Bopa." Yet I knew he really wanted that certificate! So the kind ladies explain that they just have to promise for 5 minutes...no takers. The boys nicely decline the offer and leave without it! It was all I could do not to laugh outloud. The boys told Bopa all about it not getting the certificate and his chest puffed out in pride. Once a Red Sox fan always a Red Sox fan!
Two rows behind us were a bunch of Red Sox fans that happened to be staying in our hotel as well. We get to talking a bit and I learn they are from the neighboring small town in Maine where we vacation. Small world!
