It was a sad day last weekend when we learned that Rob's grandmother had passed away in Texas. Grandma was the glue that held her family together as her house was the meeting point for reunions and holidays. Someone it seemed was always coming or going. Whenever we were remotely near her little town, we did our best to get there. We shared bits of memories as we told the boys of her passing...Rob remembers her puttering in the flower beds while all the grandkids played in the pool and how no matter how late he slept as a teenager she always cooked bacon and eggs for him when he woke up. I love that she usually had Oreo cookies waiting for me and that she valued how much I love her grandson. For the boys she had their favorite chocolate chip cookies, a box of mac and cheese, and frozen waffles in the freezer. It didnt't matter if we were there for one night or several, she was ready to feed us! Isn't that what grandmothers are for though - to feed your body as well as your heart? Ryan will miss all the game playing around Grandma's tables and playing baseball in the yard then having to look for "prickers" on his shoes and socks before he could come inside. Sean who was only 3 the last time we saw her, but much to our surprise, clearly remembers the always stocked toy chest in the living room that was always waiting for him. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Grandma but we know she is a having a joyous reunion with those loved ones who were waiting for her.
